Unchosen One

I wrote Shadows Rise in 2014, when I was 15. Four years later, in 2018, I had yet to fully complete another manuscript. I had plenty of incomplete projects, but I couldn’t finish anything. And so, desperate to finish something so I could prove my first book wasn’t a one-off, I wrote Unchosen One.

This is not a good book. Of everything I’ve written, though there are works that certainly fall lower in pure technical skill, this is the book that I loathe the most. The finished product betrays the concepts that drove me to write it in the first place, and horrible compromises were made to complete the story solely for the sake of it.

I believe in learning from failure, though I’m not always very good at doing that. I’ve certainly come a long way from Unchosen One, but I think in some ways Feast or Famine repeated some of this story’s sins.
